Kent dating ideas

With beautiful outdoor space in abundance, it will be easy to discover the dating delights of the garden county. But, if you are stuck for what to do on your date, we’ve come up with some ideas so you don’t have to. Now you can spend less time fretting over where to go and more time on the date itself.

Romantic walks

Kent is known as ‘The Garden of England’ for a reason, with less than 2% of the land covered by buildings, there are plenty of beautiful outdoor spaces to traverse through with your date. Get caught in a kissing gate on a brisk walk through the North Downs Way or be enchanted in the woodlands of The Blean. If you’d rather feel the rush of the sea air, visit one of Kent’s idyllic seaside towns for a romantic beach stroll.

Suggest a walk past the colourful beach-huts on the Tankerton slopes into nearby Whitstable. Make a stop for aphrodisiacal oysters on the promenade from one of the fishermen’s stalls selling their fresh catch of the day. If on your walk you’ve worked up an appetite and would like to continue your date into the evening, take a table at The Oxford, where you can fill up on modern British cuisine in a relaxed environment.

Wine and dine

Did you know that Kent is an international award winning wine region? With a climate and soil similar to Northern France, Kentish sparkling wine is building a name for itself as an alternative champagne. So, if you and your date fancy a tipple, invite them for a guided tour of the Chapel Down Winery in Tenterden.

Spend an afternoon getting to know one another meandering through the vineyard and tasting home-grown wine. Then, if you’re a believer in the motto ‘food is the way to your beloved’s heart’, book a table at the winery’s on-site restaurant The Swan and enjoy an intimate evening sharing a delicious dinner with your date.

Visit a Stately Home

If you’re hoping to impress your date, suggest a day out at one of Kent’s magnificent stately homes. At Penshurst Place, soak in the grandeur of this historic manor house, and feel the romance in the air. Sir Philip Sydney, a prominent Elizabethan poet and a previous resident, was inspired to write the romantic sonnet sequence Astrophel and Stella whilst living here. The carefully manicured gardens are the perfect spot for an afternoon stroll getting to know your date.

Another stately home you could visit which also has a romantic literary connection is Goodnestone Park. The time Jane Austen spent here inspired her to write some of her most popular novels, including her classic Pride and Prejudice. While away the hours emulating Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet and who knows maybe this could be the start of your very own love story.
